Flooding and life belts!

A bike ride saw me actually able to get through the previously flooded road under the railway bridge that I featured some days ago.

Flooding 2023

The flooding has gone but the debris of those foolish enough to drive through the flood remains.

There are at least 7 number plates including a 22 plate Tesla. Apparently, from talking to someone who lives nearby, the Tesla stopped in the water with a loud bang! Ouch! And more ouches as you add up the cots of all the other cars!

Reminded by the above, and taking water safety seriously, the Wharf Master, me, at Chalkdon, my 009 layout, has installed a life belt on the wharf side! Actually it was one of the 3D printed items that I picked up at the Sleaford Model Makers Show. At £1 it was a bargain and painted up it looks good. The life belt itself was a seperate print which made painting easier.

Superglued in place it was time to mount it on the layout.

It fits in well and gives an added bit of interest as well as ensuring water safety!

Open and shut!

Before doing some more in the Man Cave with the level crossing gates (more on that later on) I managed to get out on a bike ride today - the first time in nearly a week. Rain and snow having provided a good excuse to stay in the warm for the past week I had not seen much of the effect of all this moisture. To be honest I should have just opened the front door looked out and stayed in as the local roads were somewhat damp! This looks like a ford but there is a road under there! I did cycle through as I could see the road surface below avoiding any potholes.

However, I was not cycling through this so it was a case of turn round a go a different way!

Flooding 2023

I have never seen this at this canal location with the water flowing over the lock gates. Looks quite spectacular!

Just a bit further down this building is so close to being flooded but hopefully will keep dry.

Back in the dryness of WMD HQ the level crossing gate project on Chalkdon my 009 gauge layout has progressed well. They have been painted and put in place on the layout.

Level Crossing Gates 009

Allowing the safe passage for trains by being closed this rather interesting vehicle goes through - I am  sure I have seen it somewhere before!

With that loco having gone through this passenger train then had the right of way.

Level Crossing Gates 009

With the trains having gone through it was a case of opening the gates!

The photo below shows how the gates fold over each other when open - I am almost proud that my measurements worked out!

Level Crossing Gates 009

It may be an open and shut case for the level crossing gates but for this pedestrian the side gates remain firmly closed! He is in for a long wait!

Yet more eating out for Mrs. Woody and flood alert at the Man Cave!

Mrs. Woody and me headed to the delights of Norfolk on a far from delightful day of rain to have lunch with some friends which was actually delightful! However as we set of to return back to WMD HQ a phone call from a neighbour warned us that our back garden was flooding. A few photos sent by phone revealed that the green house was definitely flooded with the Man Cave close to being flooded. The desire to get home quickly was tempered by the fact that the roads were truly bad to drive. If there was going to be flooding it would happen regardless of whether Mrs. W. and me were there or not. So a safe drive home found us back still with some daylight to see how things were. Luckily they seemed no worse than the photos showed that had been sent to us. I rolled up my trousers and waded out to the Man Cave just to look inside. At the moment it is dry inside and I just hope it stays that way! The weather forecast says another two hours of rain so fingers crossed!!!!!
